This photograph was taken from Rano Raraku, the quarry from which the maoi were carved looking toward the Poike Peninsula. If you look closely at the bottom of the photo, about 1/3 from the left you can see the fifteen moai standing at Ahu Tongariki. The sun is just beginning to climb above the ocean and the moon was fleeting across the sky as the ancient world awakened.
