The
photographs of the aurora borealis were taken
in Svensby, Norway in December 2003. Svensby
is located at about 70 degrees longitude, within
the Arctic Circle. It
was a clear night and there had been a lot
of activity on the sun recently, resulting
in amazing shows of light in the night sky.
These
pictures are amazing. However,
in order to take the shots, I needed to keep
my shutter open for about 30 seconds. The
digital camera then ran an algorithm to clean
up the noise in the picture which resulted
in a slight graininess in the photograph. The
grain is apparent if you stand right next
to the photograph, but becomes less obvious
if you stand back further.
