Aurora - Svensby

The photographs of the aurora borealis were taken in Svensby, Norway in December 2003.  Svensby is located at about 70 degrees longitude, within the Arctic Circle.  It was a clear night and there had been a lot of activity on the sun recently, resulting in amazing shows of light in the night sky.

These pictures are amazing.  However, in order to take the shots, I needed to keep my shutter open for about 30 seconds.  The digital camera then ran an algorithm to clean up the noise in the picture which resulted in a slight graininess in the photograph.  The grain is apparent if you stand right next to the photograph, but becomes less obvious if you stand back further.

The image that you see on your screen has been reduced in quality so that it can be shown over the internet. The image that you will purchase will be much higher in quality and will not have Jeffrey Mahn written in the lower, right corner.
